Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra Clarifying Face Oil

This oil is all the talk right now, and I am happy to report that I actually purchased this right away instead of slacking. I think I was in shock with all of the five star reviews that I didn’t need any convincing whatsoever. It definitely has to be one of the top rated products on Spehora right now. This is the Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra Clarifying Face Oil, and it’s absolutely brilliant.

I just wanted to get my thoughts about it out right away, and let you know that this will be a positive review. That way all the people who don’t bother to actually read reviews can get on with their generic “great! sounds like a nice product” comments. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? It is a nice product and you don’t have to read any further if you don’t like. Was that a mini rant? Oops. Moving on…

Basically, you need this stuff. I won’t go in to the ingredient details because they are all listed here under the ingredients tab, so you can have a look if you’d like. The main thing that caught my eye was the Salicylic Acid. I have acne prone skin and it’s usually associated with stress, so I am always looking for products to help with that but aren’t drying to the skin. Another thing I noticed off the bat was the tea tree oil included as well. This is also a great at killing bacteria on the skin, which is what can cause acne (not dirt or makeup, contrary to popular belief).

When I finally found this alien-looking product at Sephora (which is quite properly named), I pulled out the dropper and plopped some on my skin and began to take a big wiff. I literally was so turned off, I had to walk away for a second. You guys, this smelled sooo bad to me I wanted to gag. It had the most earthy scent and I hated it. I thought to myself “how can I possibly purchase this?” I was really nervous and began to look at other products. Long story short (and after much time pacing back and forth), I Obviously ended up purchasing it. I just couldn’t get past how good the reviews were and I was determined to try and get over the scent.

Guess what? I got over it. The scent dissipates after a while until it is almost completely gone, which I was so happy about. As far as the initial application, I am learning to love the smell of what I call ‘earth’. Which is what I also happen to refer to matcha tea as (gross).

So how does this actually work? Well it works brilliantly. I usually test a product out for three weeks in most circumstances, but I noticed a difference with this after two nights. Two bloody nights. Before bed I massage about four – six drops of this on my face after my cleansing routine. What I love is that it’s a dry oil and doesn’t leave your skin greasy. By the time I wake up the oil has soaked all the way in to my skin and I am left with glowing blemish-free skin. Even my mom noticed how healthy my skin was looking after night two.

Another benefit to using this was my skin got rid of some discolouration. This is also a claim of the face oil as listed on Sephora. Literally every claim they made was met in my opinion. I will say that I didn’t feel like this minimized my pores the more I used it. Though I had/have been using this straight for a good two and a half weeks every single night. My pores looked fantastic for the first week and a half or so. That’s the only real thing I noticed that could be a downer, but I have a suspicion I need to ease up for a few days and apply some other oils.

And lastly, the thing that’s on everyone’s mind: price tag. This is essssspensive. But yes, it is worth absolutely every penny in my opinion. This is definitely a splurge and I will be repurchasing this again and again and as long as my adult acne is here to stay, *scowls*. You can find it at Sephora for $80.

What has been your best skin care splurge? And have you tried Sunday Riley U.F.O. yet? If you have any recommendations for other Sunday Riley products I am all ears! Would love to get some.

Sunday Riley

    1. Welcome! Hmmm… I really do think this formula is pretty hydrating. But I have to say for $80 I wouldn’t want to buy it and find out either haha. When I wake up my face is pretty oily but in a good way. I don’t think the salicylic acid is too strong. I think benzoyl peroxide is MUCH more drying, though you know your skin better than me! Wish they had samples. Bah!

  1. My skin is oily but dehydrated, do you think this will be good? To be honest, I have never splurged on any skincare products, because my skin is worse than a moody teenager. At one point it`s oily, then dry, back and forth. Your review was great; it really made me curious about this oil.

    1. Well the salicylic acid can definitely be drying. But I think this oil has a nice balance of not making your skin dry and not making you too greasy. I would definitely give it a go for your skin type. If you don’t like it after the first few nights, Sephora will let you return it anyway. πŸ™‚

  2. I am dying to try some of the Sunday Riley products but they are so pricey!!! This one sounds like exactly what I am looking for (I have acne-prone skin too). I may go to Sephora so I can check out the scent you described first and make sure I can get past it too! lol!

    1. I knowwww, I wish it wasn’t so much! There are a lot of awesome ingredients in it though. BUT YES, definitely check out the scent before you purchase. It’s super strong haha.

  3. I need this! I have super oily and acne prone skin, yet it’s weird because most of the times it is kind of dehydrated. I wish their products weren’t super expensive, though πŸ™ and I love everything alien-themed. I totally feel you with that little “rant”, I’ve seen many comments lately saying “sounds great!” when the review is completely bashing the product, haha, kind of makes me lose some respect.

    1. This is a dry oil and it contains salicylic acid, so it might be a little drying for you if you are dehydrated. Though if I remember right you can actually HAVE oil skin yet be dehydrated. Kind of weird how that works! I wish they had a sample size or something for people to try because I’ve heard a few ladies think it might dry them out more. For me it’s very hydrating! πŸ™‚

And I totally agree! I always try and read everyone’s post. It’s funny when people are like “sounds like an amazing product” and you literally said you hated it the whole time. Kind of makes me laugh haha. Thanks Cy!

  4. I am so pleased you mentioned the smell! I had a whiff of my friend’s bottle when I’d started hearing so much great stuff about it, and I literally couldn’t get over the smell! Although, I have to admit, I didn’t realise how hydrating it was, though – I think I might have to bite the bullet and give it a try, after all.

    1. The smell is soooo strong! I wasn’t in to it at all. I still am not, but I’ve at least gotten used to it. The nice thing is after an hour or so it’s gone. πŸ™‚

    1. Yes! The best feeling when someone compliments your skin. The packaging is super super nice. Can’t help but think the price could be knocked a little lower without it. But honestly I still love everything about it and the packaging is a bonus. πŸ˜‰

  5. So happy you stated how many drops you use! I used this for the first time tonight and felt like I put way too much on. I started with 3-4 drops, which felt like hardly anything. I put on 2 additional drops and felt like an oil slick. It says to put on a thin layer, but I never know whats considered “thin” lol! I guess I will have to play around with it! I put this on over the Martian toner. Have you tried out Martian yet? I’m very excited to see how it does as a base. I have high hopes for these Sunday Riley products!

    1. I tried the Martian toner in the store and I was so so close to buying it haha. It feels absolutely amazing. I love that it goes from a light cream to a liquid and virtually disappears. It’s designed so well! As for the drops, the SAME exact thing happened to me. At first I only used 3-4 and it felt so light. So then I did two more drops each on my cheeks and it was the perfect amount. It can also depend on how large the surface of your face is. I am pretty tall and just bigger in general, so I have more to cover. Currently I use six drops and that seems to work pretty nicely. Keep me updated on how it goes!!

  6. This was SUCH a thorough review, thank you for covering every aspect of your experience. I’m definitely interested in trying it out, especially after I get off some of the harsher chemicals I’m using my own problematic skin right now. I’ll be sure to plug my nose when applying!

    1. Ah I remembering you mentioning the stuff you’re taking for your skin. Hope you can get off of it soon! This oil is definitely worth the splurge. Thanks for the comment Kasie!

    1. They definitely work, I’ll say that much! Sometimes I try to spend a little less on makeup hauls, and then splurge on the good skin care stuff. πŸ˜‰

  7. Sunday Riley is one of the brands that I really want to try, however that expensive price tag really puts me off! Noticing a difference within two days using it sounds pretty impressive, I haven’t found a product that does to my skin. Maybe one day if I feel like splurging then this will be on top of the list to check out!

    Ela BellaWorld

    1. It’s definitely worth it. I know it sounds like a crazy amount of money. I almost skipped it myself! But I am soooo glad I didn’t. A lot of her products are absolutely incredible, so you can’t really go wrong. She has a few that are slightly cheaper too. πŸ™‚

    1. Oh Luna! I’ve only tried a sample but it’s brilliant as well! I just can’t afford TWO of her oils haha. But either are great!

  8. I literally laughed aloud upon reading your little rant, I so get it, girl, haha. As for the oil, it looks like I NEED to try this one as soon as I’m finished with the one I’ve been using, it sounds like the perfect product to meet all my needs. I have acne prone skin as well, coupled with discoloration and the fact that this triggers both those with results that are noticeable in such a short amount of time, has definitely sparked my interest. Plus, I love that it contains tea tree oil, which I used to apply on my skin and have forgotten to repurchase, since I last finished. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, I’ve bookmarked this page for reference. I hope you have the most amazing week ahead!

    1. Yay, I love making people laugh! Definitely check this out. You can interchange oils too. I would actually recommend this isn’t used every single night. I like to use mine 2-3 nights in a row and then lay off for a few nights. Your skin will love you if you have acne and discoloration! πŸ˜‰

    1. It’s tough to pick just one Sunday Riley product, and most of us are on a budget so it’s a must. Luna is a great start I think!! Also check out Good Genes. πŸ™‚

    1. Oh nice! I would love to get some samples to give to people, as the whole bottle is quite expensive. How great you got to test it out first! The scent is definitely strong. I actually can’t believe I got over it myself. The salisylic acid can be a little drying for sure! Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚

    1. It really is worth it! If that helps haha. I wish they had a smaller size for people to sample first. And thank you Tiffany! Glad you like my blog. πŸ™‚

  9. This is such a good review!! For a couple of years, I REFUSED to put oil onto my skin because my biggest concerns were oily skin and acne. But my skin started looking better after I put jojoba oil on :)) That was such a big change! Thank you so much for this sweet review. I’m about to buy it XD!!!

    1. You’re welcome Jeewoon! Same thing happened to me. When I started using oil on my face and got over my fear, my skin looked so good! Hope you like it!

  10. Thank you for your review! I have to admit I’m very hesitant about this product despite knowing that oils have worked especially well for my dehydrated, acne-prone skin. I’ve tried Good Genes as a replacement for Ole Henriksen’s Invigorating Night Transformation Treatment, and while I thought it worked well my whole impression was dampened by the horrid smell. I used it up and did not repurchase:(
The only reason I looked at this product is because of the black cumin. I’ve been using Odacite’s pimples serum, which is perfect (even for hormonal acne!) but it’s so expensive… more so than the UFO oil (it costs the same for only 5ml). Have you tried it?

  11. I heard so many bad reviews on this products, but i just went ahead and bought it cause of your review. Do i use moisturiser after this? And can thsi product get rid of clogged pores, cause i have so many bumps on my face?

    1. Hey Jessica! Yes! It’s really great for clogged pores. I personally wouldn’t use moisturizer after this because I think it’s a bit much. Unless you have really dry skin. The salicylic acid can dry out your skin but I don’t have issues with it since I’m oily to being with. πŸ™‚
