NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

I’ll just jump right in with these! I purchased these lovlies a few weeks ago and have finally had the time to try them all. I bought Cairo, Abu Dhabi, and London. They are all named after cities which I love, and these three drew me in the most. Well sort of… It’s a long-ish story, but I originally wanted to try London which looked sooo pretty in photos. Every drug store I searched was completely sold out of London! Guess I wasn’t the only one who was in love with this colour. So then I just decided to settle on Abu Dhabi because it looked closest to London, and the lighter shade, ‘Cairo’.

Overall impressions? Buttery, creamy, smooth on the lips, and a lovely pigment. They are definitely your typical drugstore product in that they don’t stay all day long, but for a few re-applications throughout the day the price is good. These do not dry completely matte and they stay creamy on your lips. So be cautious of them rubbing off on something. I’ve gotten them on my fingers a few times as I am so used to liquid matte lipsticks these days!

I think my biggest pro about these products is the gorgeous colors. As far as these being amazing or anything like a holy grail product, ehhhh. Definitely not! I’m not sure I’d actually purchase these again, but maybe. They look really natural on the lips, they smell good, and have a great colour payoff after a few coats.

I was really disappointed with this one. The colour did not lay well on my lips at all. I was hoping to get somewhat of a matte finish but the formula of this one is so light that the pigment is almost translucent on my lips. Absolutely no colour payoff here. This was the first one I put on, so I freaked thinking the others would be like this. Thank god they aren’t! This one is just bad in my opinion and I wouldn’t purchase this colour again.

Abu Dhabi

This one is definitely my favorite of the three. It is almost identical to London except this one has a more pinky tint to it, whereas London has a more brown tint. I am really glad I picked this one up. I can’t say enough good things about this colour. Ahhhhh! Pick it up.

Again sort of disappointed with this one colour wise, but I think as no fault of Nyx… I saw this one SO much in Pinterest and Instagram and the colour was so pretty to me, I pretty much lusted hard after this one. However, looking back on it I think all the photos were edited with filters. Gah! When I put this on my lips I was so shocked that it wasn’t like the colour I saw at all. It’s such a double edge sword for me because editing my photos is a must in order to stay consistent, and I’m sure it’s that way for most bloggers as well. But damn, it can be so deceiving! For this reason I always go back and forth about editing my photos, especially with lip color.

These soft matte lip creams are a nice addition to any drugstore lippy collection. I’d say most of the colours are quite lovely, with the weird exception of Cairo (or is it just me?). Have any of you tried these yet? Thoughts? Also what are your thoughts on filtering lip product photos? Yay or nay?
