It’s been nearly a whole month since I’ve talked anything beauty related! Apparently I’ve been consumed by coffee and travel, which are not bad things to be preoccupied with. However, we’re about to take a look in to my current night time skin care routine. A few posts ago I asked if you’d rather have separate reviews of products, or one post of all the products I’m currently using, and the later won. I will also do a part two which will include my day time routine. Let’s get into it in order of appearance, shall we?
Pre-Cleanse: Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | HERE
First up is my go-to pre-cleanse and makeup remover, Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser. I love the way this stuff removes all my makeup for the day and creates a perfect base for my second cleanse. This gentle cleanser is formulated with the same ingredient in contact solution, so you’re able to completely open your eyes mid mascara scrub. Actually, that’s probably my favorite part! I like to squirt a good three pumps or so on my hand, especially if I went J. Lo that day, and then step in to the shower and work away at my face in circular motions. Do make sure you rub your eyelashes gently! This completely removes all my makeup and leaves a nice rose-like scent.
I only use this as a makeup remover even though it is marketed as a cleanser too. This would be gentle enough to use as a morning cleanse if you want to use it as that, but I just prefer it as a makeup remover only.
Cleanse: Kate Somerville Daily Detox Cleanser | HERE
I am on my second bottle of this and I absolutely love this as my main cleanser. I use this first in my routine right before I slip into bed. Usually I will take a shower and rub my makeup off using Glossier, and then I will spend a few hours binging on Netflix, reading a book, or editing photos. When I am finally ready for bed, the Daily Detox Cleanser is my first step. This cleanser has more of a masculine scent which I love, and you can smell all the good herbs that have gone into this product! Since this is my second bottle, I can definitely attest to this stuff keeping my skin clear and helping my hyper pigmentation. This is a beautiful cleanser that leaves your skin fully hydrated, but still removes the dirt and left over makeup.
Exfoliate: Nip + Fab Exfoliate Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme | HERE
After my Kate Somerville cleanse, I like to use these glycolic pads from Nip + Fab to really exfoliate and treat my skin. These pads are packed with some really nice acids including salicylic acid and lactic acid. These are great for exfoliating the skin and removing your dead skin cells, as well as treating blemishes and restoring the skin to its brighter form. These work similarly to an acid peel. Don’t be scared or turned off by the ‘extreme’ in the product name though. These only contain 5% glycolic acid, which is on par with Pixi’s Glow Tonic that most women use. There is nothing really extreme about these pre-soaked pads. You’d get much more acidity in a professional peel, and these are no where near that level. I would say these are ‘extremely‘ nice though. Okay, I’m done now…
Eye Cream: Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Eye Cream | HERE
I’ve been using this little guy for about a month now, and let me tell you, it’s essspensive. I actually wouldn’t recommend this product to everyone. For now, I continue to use it because it’s what’s there but I do think I will pass it on to my mom at some point. This retinol eye cream is supposed to reduce fine lines and dark circles with its anti-aging ingredients. I have no doubt that it does this, but I happen to have decently nice under eyes (that feels so weird to say. Imagine if a man complimented you on your ‘under eyes’) and I am in my late twenties. So to be completely honest, I don’t feel like I need this product quite yet in my life. For all you ladies with more mature skin, I think this would be lovely! I only use this at night and every other night to two nights in between uses. Possible separate review coming soon.
*These next two products I alternative nights with.
Facial Oil: Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil | HERE
I don’t need to explain this one too much, as I did a very detailed and separate review on it in a previous post. I like to use this every other night to every two nights when I feel like my skin could potentially be ready to break out. I’ve had acne for a long time, and even though it sounds crazy, I can generally predict when my skin is being fussy. In short, this dry oil helps take care of blemishes and acne while keeping the skin nourished, and it does it really well. This is a phenomenal product and possibly my favorite product of the year. A bit pricey, but worth every freaking penny. Pssst, I may have a giveaway in the works!
Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre | HERE
As somewhat of a cult product in France, this multi-purpose moisturizer is great for over night hydration. I love everything about this: the smell, the consistency, the hydration, the price, the super boushy French name. I use this one also every other night and sometimes every two nights. I typically don’t use a serum or facial oil and a moisturizer, because I find it’s just too much for my skin. This moisturizer is also really great for a makeup primer, and on days I wear makeup I like to start with this as a primer/moisturizer. This product does have shea butter in it though, which I know a lot of ladies have bad reactions to. So just be aware of that! Sephora finally started selling this product. Before you could only buy it in French Pharmacies.
Castor Oil | HERE
And lastly, I end off my night time routine with a bit of castor oil on my brows and eyelashes. I wish I had taken some before photos or even just a photos of this product, as you can see I haven’t included one at all. I completely forgot this was part of my routine though! I’ve been using this nightly for hair growth on my brows and eyelashes and holy crap ladies, this stuff WORKS. My eyelashes are much fuller with more individual hairs and my eyebrows have filled in a little as well. I just use a cue tip to apply and I usually do it every other night. Definitely try castor oil for fuller browns and eyelashes. I bought mine on Amazon.
There you have it! My complete night time routine as it is currently. There are a few other products I use as well. Sometimes I use a little Murad for moisturizing, but not enough to mention it (maybe only once a week). Typically when I feel my skin getting used to one product, then I switch it up for a few nights. I have a bunch of products on rotation, but this routine is what I’ve been loving lately.
What product is in your night time routine that you can’t live without? I am always looking for new things to try, so let me know your holy grails ladies! Leave me a comment below.
*Disclaimer: I completely hate doings these, but just wanted to say this is what works for me and the products I love to use on my face. I have oily skin and am prone to breakouts. Lately I get many compliments on my skin, and this is the routine I use. My skin has never looked better (ever).
