Finally ordered the new ColourPop Matte X Lippie Stix. I ordered three shades to test out: Back Up, Pillow Talk, and She Bad. Before I purchased these I did watch a few reviews and most importantly Kathleen Light’s vlog with all the swatches. I tend to watch her videos because we have the same skin tone so I wanted to see what all of them looked liked before I settled on some colours!
On My Lips
The overall formula of these are creamy and moisturizing. They are marketed as a matte lipstick and they do show up very matte on the lips. However these do transfer and do not dry down completely. If you’re looking for a non-transfer matte lipstick, then you’re better off purchasing their matte liquid lipsticks. These are really smooth and moisturizing so I wouldn’t really expect them to dry down anyway. That being said, they are also really easy to scrub off.
There isn’t any smell to these. Well, I guess there is a faint smell which I cannot really describe without laughing. I swear they smell like when you drink water from a hose! That is probably so weird, and not sure why I smell that but it reminds me of my childhood outside by the pool.
By far my favorite colour of the three. This is such a beautiful berry colour and looks great on my fair skin. This one isn’t patchy and doesn’t flake off or get stuck in the cracks of my lips. Buy this colour and you’re one night out away from the perfect summery bold lip!
This one I was a little unimpressed by simply for the colour. On me it looks a little grey, and it’s supposed to be a light brown. I think it’s the lighting, but just know that in certain light this could have a slightly grey undertone on you. As far as application, this one glides on so smooth like Back Up and doesn’t get flaky anywhere.
So before I bought this colour I had already seen a couple YouTubers say that a few of the colours just had a bad formula, and this was one of them. I had my heart absolutely set on this one though. I try to take everything with a grain of salt, as everyone is different. So despite the ‘beware’ reviews I purchased this one anyway. And let me tell you… everyone was right. For some freaking reason, this colour is so choppy and reallyyy gets stuck in the cracks of your lips. It’s not very flattering at all. Ah well, at least I tried!
Also, I must have gotten a bad tube of this one too because the stick flies out when I take the cap off all the time. It sort of creates a mess inside the tube as well. The other two do not do that, so that’s why I am thinking I just got a bad tube.
Left: Pillow Talk, Middle: Back Up, Right: She Bad
I would highly recommend Back Up as the colour is absolutely gorgeous. The other two I was sort of ‘eh’ on. Honestly for the price (which I think is only like $5), these aren’t bad and I don’t regret buying the other two colours. I did try She Bad with a lipgloss over it and that seemed to talk away the patchiness. I will still wear all three. I’ve heard the neon ones are the ones that really tend to be patchy, so just a heads up if you’re thinking about purchasing any. I still think for the overall price, you really can’t go wrong with ColourPop. They’ve reformatted their formulas in the past as well, so that might be something they do with a few of these Matte X Lippies in the future.
Would I Purchase Again?
I would purchase these again. But I would stick to the more neutral and less neon colours, as I think those formulas are probably better.
