Hollow Cafe is often referred to as the ‘hidden gem’ of the Inner Sunset. Until Instagram, I had no idea that this cute little coffee shop even existed. Sitting on a totally unassuming street, this little green hut cultivates a world of its own. Stepping inside is like escaping the reality of a big busy city. It’s just you and book, and one amazing cup of coffee.
We arrived at Hollow after breakfast for another latte, of course. I am pretty sure I had three lattes a day on my last visit to SF. I was instantly mesmerized by this cute little coffee shop. You can’t miss it from the street because its exterior is a beautiful green, and it looks a little out of place. But its ‘out-of-place-ness’ is what gives it its endearing charm.
They actually have an interesting menu here with a few specialty drinks. I had previously made a note to myself to order their matcha latte, which if I remember right, comes overflowing with a marshmallow on top. I was so excited to get into this coffee shop and order that I totally forgot about my plans, and I missed seeing the menu. The latte I ordered was really delicious though. The menu is quite tiny, so it’s easy to miss if you get as excited as I do about cute coffee shops. Just sayin’.
There are only a handful of seating options here as the coffee shop is one of the tiniest I’ve ever visited. People don’t come here for a coffee to go (though you can, obviously). People visit Hollow to sit for a while and chat or read a good book. The atmosphere is everything, and it’s the perfect little escape from our busy lives. The baristas were super friendly. And some poor guy reading a book in the corner put up with all my photos, to which he knew he would (unintentionally) be the subject of.
The interior itself is minimalism at its finest. And I gathered that most of their furniture pieces were probably antique finds in the city. You definitely don’t get a pretentious vibe here at all. Rather, a bit of an old world charm that gives you the impression that the coffee is really the focal point. It had been so long since I had sat in a cafe that wasn’t modern or ‘hashtag interior goals’. It was a completely refreshing experience.
Overall, I had a very lovely experience here and I will definitely make my way back on my next trip. Hollow is totally instagrammable, but also delicate. Definitely grab your photos here, but also sit and relax and enjoy the moment. Being in the moment here is like a really slow hour, where you feel like nothing exists but you, a good book, and an even better cup of coffee. Now that’s an amazing Sunday.
