My Current Night Time Skin Care Routine

It’s been nearly a whole month since I’ve talked anything beauty related! Apparently I’ve been consumed by coffee and travel, which are not bad things to be preoccupied with. However, we’re about to take a look in to my current night time skin care routine. A few posts ago I asked if you’d rather have separate reviews of products, or one post of all the products I’m currently using, and the later won. I will also do a part two which will include my day time routine. Let’s get into it in order of appearance, shall we?

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Pre-Cleanse: Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | HERE

First up is my go-to pre-cleanse and makeup remover, Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser. I love the way this stuff removes all my makeup for the day and creates a perfect base for my second cleanse. This gentle cleanser is formulated with the same ingredient in contact solution, so you’re able to completely open your eyes mid mascara scrub. Actually, that’s probably my favorite part! I like to squirt a good three pumps or so on my hand, especially if I went J. Lo that day, and then step in to the shower and work away at my face in circular motions. Do make sure you rub your eyelashes gently! This completely removes all my makeup and leaves a nice rose-like scent.

I only use this as a makeup remover even though it is marketed as a cleanser too. This would be gentle enough to use as a morning cleanse if you want to use it as that, but I just prefer it as a makeup remover only.

Cleanse: Kate Somerville Daily Detox Cleanser | HERE

I am on my second bottle of this and I absolutely love this as my main cleanser. I use this first in my routine right before I slip into bed. Usually I will take a shower and rub my makeup off using Glossier, and then I will spend a few hours binging on Netflix, reading a book, or editing photos. When I am finally ready for bed, the Daily Detox Cleanser is my first step. This cleanser has more of a masculine scent which I love, and you can smell all the good herbs that have gone into this product! Since this is my second bottle, I can definitely attest to this stuff keeping my skin clear and helping my hyper pigmentation. This is a beautiful cleanser that leaves your skin fully hydrated, but still removes the dirt and left over makeup.

Exfoliate: Nip + Fab Exfoliate Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme | HERE

After my Kate Somerville cleanse, I like to use these glycolic pads from Nip + Fab to really exfoliate and treat my skin. These pads are packed with some really nice acids including salicylic acid and lactic acid. These are great for exfoliating the skin and removing your dead skin cells, as well as treating blemishes and restoring the skin to its brighter form. These work similarly to an acid peel. Don’t be scared or turned off by the ‘extreme’ in the product name though. These only contain 5% glycolic acid, which is on par with Pixi’s Glow Tonic that most women use. There is nothing really extreme about these pre-soaked pads. You’d get much more acidity in a professional peel, and these are no where near that level. I would say these are ‘extremely‘ nice though. Okay, I’m done now…

Eye Cream: Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Eye Cream | HERE

I’ve been using this little guy for about a month now, and let me tell you, it’s essspensive. I actually wouldn’t recommend this product to everyone. For now, I continue to use it because it’s what’s there but I do think I will pass it on to my mom at some point. This retinol eye cream is supposed to reduce fine lines and dark circles with its anti-aging ingredients. I have no doubt that it does this, but I happen to have decently nice under eyes (that feels so weird to say. Imagine if a man complimented you on your ‘under eyes’) and I am in my late twenties. So to be completely honest, I don’t feel like I need this product quite yet in my life. For all you ladies with more mature skin, I think this would be lovely! I only use this at night and every other night to two nights in between uses. Possible separate review coming soon.

*These next two products I alternative nights with.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Facial Oil: Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil | HERE

I don’t need to explain this one too much, as I did a very detailed and separate review on it in a previous post. I like to use this every other night to every two nights when I feel like my skin could potentially be ready to break out. I’ve had acne for a long time, and even though it sounds crazy, I can generally predict when my skin is being fussy. In short, this dry oil helps take care of blemishes and acne while keeping the skin nourished, and it does it really well. This is a phenomenal product and possibly my favorite product of the year. A bit pricey, but worth every freaking penny. Pssst, I may have a giveaway in the works!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre | HERE

As somewhat of a cult product in France, this multi-purpose moisturizer is great for over night hydration. I love everything about this: the smell, the consistency, the hydration, the price, the super boushy French name. I use this one also every other night and sometimes every two nights. I typically don’t use a serum or facial oil and a moisturizer, because I find it’s just too much for my skin. This moisturizer is also really great for a makeup primer, and on days I wear makeup I like to start with this as a primer/moisturizer. This product does have shea butter in it though, which I know a lot of ladies have bad reactions to. So just be aware of that! Sephora finally started selling this product. Before you could only buy it in French Pharmacies.

Castor Oil | HERE

And lastly, I end off my night time routine with a bit of castor oil on my brows and eyelashes. I wish I had taken some before photos or even just a photos of this product, as you can see I haven’t included one at all. I completely forgot this was part of my routine though! I’ve been using this nightly for hair growth on my brows and eyelashes and holy crap ladies, this stuff WORKS. My eyelashes are much fuller with more individual hairs and my eyebrows have filled in a little as well. I just use a cue tip to apply and I usually do it every other night. Definitely try castor oil for fuller browns and eyelashes. I bought mine on Amazon.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

There you have it! My complete night time routine as it is currently. There are a few other products I use as well. Sometimes I use a little Murad for moisturizing, but not enough to mention it (maybe only once a week). Typically when I feel my skin getting used to one product, then I switch it up for a few nights. I have a bunch of products on rotation, but this routine is what I’ve been loving lately.

What product is in your night time routine that you can’t live without? I am always looking for new things to try, so let me know your holy grails ladies! Leave me a comment below.

*Disclaimer: I completely hate doings these, but just wanted to say this is what works for me and the products I love to use on my face. I have oily skin and am prone to breakouts. Lately I get many compliments on my skin, and this is the routine I use. My skin has never looked better (ever).

Glossier is a great brand! They are actually very affordable as well which I love. The Sunday Riley is definitely higher end, but they are so worth it. Both brands are so different, but a great addition to anyone’s routine!

Thanks so much for sharing these products, most of which I’ve never even heard of before! I, too, have oily, acne prone skin, so I always love to read what women that have the same skin type are using. I’m particularly interested in the Glossier cleanser. I’ve yet to find a makeup remover that fully gets rid of mascara and all other eye makeup, without burning my eyes! The fact that it contains the same ingredient found in contact solution (I wear contacts!) is very intriguing. I’ve been using micellar water, which has been great for removing makeup on my skin, but not so great for my eyes, so I’ll have to check this one out. Also, the girl that used to do my eyebrows (omg how I miss her! no one does my eyebrows like her and she’s moved 🙁 used to tell me to use castor oil for them and I never did, I think I’ve just forgotten. I have to try and remember because everyone who does use it seems to really love the results! Thanks again for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having the most amazing start to your week so far!

You will absolutely LOVE the Glossier product for removing eye makeup. It has never stung me once and is the most gentle thing in the world. I find sometimes that micellar water can be a little too drying and harsh, especially with a cotton round. The Glossier one is so so gentle. And definitely try castor oil. It really works and isn’t even that expensive! I couldn’t believe it myself.

Thank you for taking the time to write this down and I love reading about other’s skincare routine. I have that Embroylisse cream in my list to purchase but probably not for a while though as I have boat load of skincare to go through. I have read a lot about castor oil too, will definitely purchase one when I’m done with my RapidLash treatment.

Welcome Shireen! I too love posts like this. I find so many great new products this way. I keep being paranoid that the Embryolisse will run out. I am pretty sure on the Sephora site it says for a limited time only, or limited quantities. I should buy another soon! It really is so great. The castor oil has been great and is a cheaper way to go for sure.

I’m really intrigued to try the Kate Somerville brand, I’ve heard endless good things about it! Currently the only thing making a difference to my skin is La Roche Posay so I’m scared to try anything else incase it’s not as good and my skin goes even worse! I love seeing people skincare routines, it opens up the door to so many new products! xxx

Same here! It’s fun to see what people use and discover new products. Kate Somerville is very friendly towards sensitive and acne prone skin. I find that to be the case with La Roche Posay as well. You might try some of her line!

Embryoelisse really is the best! I was hoping you had something different to throw at me, but I really need to just accept that it can’t get much better than that deliciously smooth moisturizer.

I’ve never heard of castor oil being used for hair growth. Definitely adding to the to-try list. My brows could use it 😉

Haha! Is that a challenge Lauren?! I think it is… ;). I actually use manyyy more products for my morning routine which I’ll be posting next week. I do love the Embryolisse though. It’s so wonderful isn’t it?! I think every girl should have a bottle. 🙂

OMG. I just posted a Daily Skin Care Routine in my blog too. I just started adding more products in my night routine (which I did not add yet in my post since I started with the new ones just a few days ago) and focused more on anti-aging now since I’m already in my (as much as I hate to admit it) late 20s. I haven’t seen those products yet locally here in the Philippines but interested to try out the eye cream! Can’t wait for the review and hopefully I can find at least an online shop here who sells it. I just started using an eye cream but it’s from The Body Shop… I trust the Koreans for my skin care products! xD

Awesome, I am totally going to check it out Gelleesh! I love seeing what other bloggers use. I am in my late twenties too but my skin is still fairly decent. Like I really love the Dennis Gross eye cream, but I just feel like I’m not ready for it yet. For now I am just sticking to sunscreen until I hit the big 3-0 I think. I do still want to review it though and explain my thoughts and why it’s not for me quite yet. I have yet to try ANYTHING from The Body Shop. I seriously need to get on that train! Heading over to your blog now to see the goodies you are using… :p

Wow, you’ve got quite the line up there. You have great skin. I get awful hormonal breakouts. Since moving, I’ve been testing with so many different brands and products, but my skin has finally settled on 4-5 main items that I can’t live without. Will keep these in mind when I need to change it up again in a few months. 🙂

Thank you Miki! That’s so nice of you to say. I am always wishing my skin was better haha. So glad you’ve found something that’s worked for you!! What products do you use that work? My breakouts are more from stress, which technically can be considered pretty close to the hormonal side of things. It sucks when you’re taking care of your skin and then you have a stressful day at work and it’s like BAM, pimple. Let me know if you need any other recommendations!

Emily, this article is the absolute holy grail for me at the moment.

    1. I’ve always been curious about Glossier products, and the mention of this cleanser/makeup remover leaving skin with a nice rose scent has just won me over. It sounds so luxurious!

    2. I can’t believe I didn’t know that Sephora is not selling Embryolisse! I’ve been wanting it in my repertoire for a while now. And look at that, I just ran out of my moisturizer! Perfect time to get it!

    3. I do like to use masks on a weekly basis and I tend to gravitate toward using a glycolic peel once in a while (I do the Hope line here).

All in all, thank yo for the wonderful suggestions!

Haha yay! I’m so glad it’s holy grail worthy Nataliya (pretty name btw)! The Glossier products are really nice products and also wallet friendly. I really really love their brand and the things they’re doing. And I was really excited to see Sephora was carrying the Lait Creme it now!! Do pick it up because I am not sure if they are ever going to stop selling it (I feel like they might). I think using a peel a few times a week is a good idea. I love doing masks too. I know for some people using a peel pad every single night causes irritation. For me it doesn’t at all because my skin is pretty oily. I find dryer skins have a problem if they are over used. Start out slow! 🙂

I always love to read about skin care routines because it’s something that is very important to me. I’ve suffered from sensitive skin and acne for many years and am currently fighting such a bad break out that keeps reoccurring and I can’t figure out why (super frustrating) I think it’s really important to have a good makeup remover and cleaners and to regularly moisturize. I think a good exfoliating regime is important too and I’ve hear a lot of good things about the Clarisonic. Have you ever used that before? Thanks for sharing babe, that clarifying oil sounds amazing. I have a difficult time finding a balance between over drying my skin with acne skin care products and keeping it too oily (as I have naturally oily skin). OOO if you have a giveaway, I’ve be the first to sign up!

I totally understand, I’ve suffered from acne for as long as I can remember! Removing your makeup is the single best thing you can do for your face, and doing it properly of course. If you’re wearing makeup or sunscreen for the day, a double cleanse is definitely necessary. I have heard really good things about the Clarisonic! It is a bit pricey, but I have definitely looked in to buying it. Though currently my routines are working wonders for me so I don’t think I need it anymore. To be honest, I have really oily skin and I’ve found that my breakouts are actually better while using oils and moisturizers. I used to only use drying acne products and completely stay away from oily ones. Well, my face is LOVING the oil. There’s some science behind that but I won’t get in to it haha. Thanks for the comment Rina!
